American artist and social activist Keith Haring created works that responded to the 1980s New York City street culture by conveying ideas about birth, death, sexuality, and war. The political content of Haring’s work was frequently overt, and his iconography has evolved into one of the 20th century’s most well-known visual languages.

He was one of the most well-known of the young musicians, performers, painters, and filmmakers whose work reflected the 1980s’ urban street culture. After receiving an AIDS diagnosis in 1988, Keith Haring founded the Keith Haring Foundation in 1989 to support AIDS groups with money and artwork and to assure that his charitable work would live on forever.

The purpose of the Keith Haring Foundation is to uphold, advance, and safeguard Haring’s artistic legacy and his principles.
